I was so excited when Chris and Lucy contacted me early in 2022 to design some colourful seed paper wedding invitations and stationery for them. They were in the midst of planning their summer wedding at the Marine Hall, Fleetwood. They knew they wanted invites and stationery that was a little different from the norm, something they weren’t going to find in an ‘off the shelf’ design. Sustainability was also an important consideration, so the stationery needed to be as eco friendly as possible, but still look fantastic.
After an initial discussion over video and a few emails back and forth, I hit the nail on the head with a colourful ink splat design, to be printed onto plantable seeded paper.
Colourful seed paper wedding invitations for a truly unique celebration
Chris & Lucy’s wedding day was completely unique. They had a limited number of the nearest and dearest join them ‘in person’ at the actual ceremony in The Mount Pavillion. More guests were invited to join them to watch the ceremony via video link form the Marine Hall, with the reception to follow. Even more guests would join them later for an evening celebration. So, three versions of wedding invitations were needed all together, and all of them would have information about local accommodation, parking, dress code, and gifts.
Concertina style, colourful seeded paper wedding invites
A concertina wedding invitation was the obvious choice, with panels for the main invite info, further details and a detachable reply postcard. Keeping the design consistent throughout the three versions, I printed the two ‘all day’ invites on plantable seedpaper, and those for the evening guests onto 100% recycled card. All the invitations had recycled kraft brown envelopes.
A clever touch – each of the invite versions featured different colour coded accents on reply cards, that would help Chris & Lucy keep track of the ‘rsvp admin’ when the cards were returned to them.
Pro tip – if you want to have plantable wedding invites, but are mindful of your budget (they are a little pricier than recycled card for obvious reasons!) then it’s absolutely fine to mix up the materials. You could have your special day invitations printed on plantable seedpaper, and then have evening invitations printed onto recycled card to help keep the overall cost down.
On the day stationery to match the colourful seed paper wedding invitations
For the big day itself, Chris & Lucy wanted to continue the ink splat theme to match their colourful plantable wedding invitations.
Plantable wedding place cards for an eco friendly celebration
For their place cards, we used that same, super colourful ink splat design printed, along with each guests name onto more plantable seed paper. Instructions on the back of each card explain how to plant and grow the paper. Having your place cards printed on plantable paper is a great idea if you;re looking for a sustainable, eco friendly alternative to wedding favours. Budget friendly too!
More ink splats and a touch of purple ribbon (to match Lucy’s dress!) featured on the wedding menu tags placed on each table for the wedding breakfast. These were printed on 100% recycled card.
A suite of matching eco friendly wedding signs completed the look on the day
A menu for the evening buffet, and a cards and gifts sign were printed at A3 size on eco mountboard. The order of the day was displayed as a graphic timeline at A2 size, along with the table plan.
And that was Chris & Lucy’s stationery for their unique wedding celebration. Colourful, plantable wedding invites with all the details their guests needed before the day. The same theme continued throughout their stationery with plantable place cards, menu tags for the tables and a complete set of colour wedding signs to match.
Finally, a note from Chris & Lucy about their colourful plantable wedding invites and stationery
I just wanted to let you know that the stationery arrived this morning. They look absolutely amazing! They are so cool and so much better than we imagined. Thank-you so much for all your hard work making these for us. You’ve been outstanding and have done everything we’ve requested and more! I couldn’t recommend you highly enough.
