You’ll need one per household

Don’t get caught out, you’ll only need one save the date per couple or household, not one per guest. If you’re not sure whether someone will make it to the final guest list it’s probably best not to send them one!

Always include a few spares with your order in case you add extra guests – and a keepsake for yourself of course!

Send them up to two years in advance

Sending your save the dates twelve to eighteen months in advance of the wedding is ideal, but up to two years before the big day is perfectly acceptable. As soon as you have booked the date and secured the venue you’re good to go!

It can be a nice touch to send them out exactly a year (or two!) to the day before your wedding. Also consider saving on postage by popping them in envelopes with your Christmas cards, if the timing suits.

They are useful for weddings at busy times

Wedding save the date cards are not essential, but they can help your guests if they need to plan time off work, book accommodation or arrange transport.

They are especially useful if you are getting married in the height of the summer wedding season. Also for bank holiday weddings or at other busy times like Christmas or Easter. If you are planning a destination wedding they are definitely something to consider.
