Sky blue wedding invitations & stationery for Lucy & Gethin

I met with Lucy in January, the perfect time to be designing wedding invitations for her July wedding to Gethin. Lucy had some clear ideas of what she was after for her wedding invitations: sky blue wedding invitations, possibly a trifold style with a ribbon wrapped around them to hold them together. So Lucy and her Mum came to my Cardiff studio, and we looked at lots of ideas and samples together. Here are the wedding invitations that we eventually settled on for her big day.

Sky blue pocket fold wedding invitations

After looking at lots of samples, Lucy decided that actually she preferred pocketfold style invitations to the trifold concertina style she originally had in mind. As well as the invitation panel itself, she wanted to include some extra details for her guests as well as a reply card that they could send back. A pocketfold style is ideal for this.

Together we chose a beautiful sky blue pocket folder, made from FSC certified card, made sustainably in the UK. Inside would be a fixed invitation panel, plus a guest information card, and a reply card with an envelope tucked into the pocket. These would all be printed with a pretty sky blue floral design onto 100% recycled white cardstock. To finish the outside of the invitation, a matching bellyband on the same recycled card.

Lucy chose the popular 5” by 7” size for her sky blue wedding invitations. This is just between A6 and A5, and is the perfect size to make an impression while not feeling too large and cumbersome.

As an added touch, Lucy decided to have her guest names printed inside her wedding invitations. This allowed me to supply her invitations fully assembled with the bellybands wrapped around, ready for her to pop into their envelopes, address, and post.

Matching sky blue evening reception invitations

To match her sky blue wedding invitations, we designed very simple, single sided, flat card invitations for the evening. These were slightly smaller A6 (postcard) size, on the same recycled white card stock, with that gorgeous sky blue floral design. No RSVP card was needed for the evening reception invitations, as Lucy asked for replied via phone or text message.

On the day stationery to match Lucy’s sky blue wedding invitations

Much nearer the big day, Lucy came back to me for some wedding signs to match her sky blue wedding invitations. She was after a table plan, an order of the day and a welcome sign. To keep the sky blue theme running throughout, I used the same pretty floral design and fonts as we used in her wedding invitations. Each sign was printed at A1 size onto 100% paper based display board. This is an eco friendly option, and easily recyclable after the wedding. No plastic, foamboard or acrylic here. The final matching set of signage was the perfect addition to her wedding decor.

So that was Lucy’s sky blue wedding invitations, and matching wedding signs for her South Wales wedding to Gethin. I really enjoyed creating this design. Such a fresh and pretty colour scheme, and those florals are just divine! When Lucy came to my studio, she had some ideas about how she wanted her invitations to look. After looking at samples, and seeing some of the other options available, her ideas changed a little. That’s the bonus of being able to sit down with a designer and talk about what will work best for you and your wedding.
