Winter wedding invitations & stationery for Emma & Tom

Emma and Tom contacted me in June, looking for invitations for their winter wedding the following December at the Gwesty’r Emlyn Hotel, in west Wales. Based in Carmarthen, it wasn’t practical for them to visit my Cardiff studio in person, so all our meetings and design work were done over Zoom and email.

The design brief was something simple and stylish for a winter wedding, including fir trees and pine cones. After an initial consultation over Zoom, I went away to investigate different artwork options. We settled on the design below which would work well across the invitations and other stationery that Emma & Tom were looking for to coordinate with elements like their cake and table settings on the big day itself.

Emma & Tom needed to include a fair amount of extra information with their winter wedding invitations. Accommodation details, a gift wish poem, and menu choices for their guests to pre-order. We decided, together, that a square concertina style invitation suited them best. Plenty of space for all the additional info, along with a detachable reply postcard that could accommodate tick boxes for those menu orders. I used the evergreen and pine cone design with crisp black text, printed onto recycled white board. Recycled kraft brown envelopes completed the design.

Matching evening reception winter wedding invitations

The evening reception invitations didn’t need to include so many details, and replies would be by phone. Therefore a simple flat, postcard sized invitation was perfect. We kept the evergreen and pine cone design theme, onto the same recycled board, with kraft envelopes.

Emma and Tom had their invitations printed and delivered to them, ready to send out by the end of August, perfect timing for their December wedding. I suggest sending invitations 4 to 6 months ahead of your big day.

On the day stationery to match Winter wedding invitations

When I contacted Emma and Tom again in October to see if I could help with any on the day stationery to match their invitations, I was delighted to receive this reply:

“We were so pleased with our invitations so would love to order some more stationery for the wedding.” And so, we got started on some designs or table numbers, a welcome sign, and a table plan.

Wedding table numbers

These were a simple design, made in a tent style. These can either be used free standing, at low level on the table (as Emma & Tom did) or fold flat to go into clips or holders. I incorporated the same fir tree and pine cone design that we introduced on the invitations, and of course recycled white card again. The table numbers tied in perfectly with Emma and Tom’s evergreen table centres, and the pine cones they used to display their place cards.

Welcome to our wedding sign

I designed a statement wedding welcome sign for Emma and Tom at A1 size (about 60cm by 80cm), incorporating the same design to match the winter wedding invitations.

All of my large format boards (welcome signs, order of the day, and table plans) are printed onto eco friendly display board made with 100% FSC Certified paper with a corrugated core. They are fully recyclable, unlike some alternatives that have a foam core, or include vinyl or acrylic elements.

Wedding table plan cards

For their table plan, Emma was planning something a little different. She sent me a picture of a wooden board she was planning to use, and wanted individual cards printed to attach to it with twine and pegs. Of course, these cards featured that fir tree and pine cone design again, to match all the other stationery. I love how the finished display looked, with the eucalyptus and twinkling fairy lights.

Thank you cards for a winter wedding

The final part of Emma & Tom’s winter wedding invitations & stationery quite was the thank you cards. They had these made when they returned from honeymoon, and included a picture of themselves on their wedding day. Just a little hint of the greenery and pine cones to ensure they coordinated with all the previous stationery. The cards were again, 100% recycled and recyclable (with recycled kraft brown envelopes), printed on the outside and blank inside for them to write a personal message.

Bespoke winter wedding invitations and stationery

I really enjoyed creating Emma & Tom’s winter wedding invitations and stationery. The evergreen fir tree and pine cone design is classic and elegant, while fully embracing a seasonal winter theme. When we met initially I didn’t have the sort of design that Emma and Tom were looking for in my portfolio, so this was a semi-bespoke design created just for them.

Emma and Tom were really pleased with everything too, here is the review Emma left me on Google.

Jo designed our wedding invitations, seating plan and table numbers. We had a lovely first meeting and explained what kind of design we wanted. Jo initially didn’t have the type of winter design we wanted but quickly found us a range of options to choose from. Our friends and family all commented on how beautiful our stationery was. We were so pleased with everything we then asked Jo to design our thank you cards! Jo has been incredibly helpful, friendly and quick to respond to messages. We would highly recommend!
