Wedding place card ideas: 9 of my favourites

Looking for wedding place card ideas? You’re in the right place. Wedding place cards, names plates, or place setting cards are essential if you need or would like your guests to have a designated seat at your wedding reception. Along with your table plan and table names or numbers, your place cards will form an important part of wedding reception stationery. There are so many ways to get creative with wedding table stationery, here are my 9 favourite wedding place card ideas.

1. The classic tent fold wedding place card

When a design just works, why change it? The classic tent fold place card is timeless and elegant. Crisp white or ivory board with a beautiful calligraphy font will give your wedding tables an air of formality and sophistication. Or, coloured board can add a little extra to your table decor. Don’t forget the backs of the cards too, it’s the perfect spot to show off your personal wedding monogram!

2. Flat wedding place card in a decorative holder

A twist on the classic tent style place card, this flat version relies on a decorative holder for it to stand up. The place card itself can be card or thick handmade paper with a printed or hand lettered design. Go to town with the holder choosing something unique that will coordinate with your table decor; crystals, wood, twisted wire, or corks to name a few.

3. Contemporary wedding place card with a wax seal

Wax seals are a hot trend for wedding stationery right now and not just for your invitations. Adorn your place cards with elegant calligraphy and a fabulous, personalised if you like, wax seal. The perfect finishing touch, tucked under your statement cutlery. I love this wedding place card idea.

4. Plantable wedding place card

Printed onto plantable seed paper, these are probably the most eco-friendly wedding place cards you could choose. They will have the planting instructions printed on the back so that your guests can take them home and watch the flowers grow. Bonus – they double up as a wedding favour too!

5. Individual wedding menu with names included

It’s becoming very popular to give each guest their own individual menu as part of the place setting. They are super cute when tucked into a perfectly folded napkin placed on a stunning charger plate. You can combine your place cards with these personal menus too by attaching a coordinating printed tag. If your guests have pre ordered their own individual choice then how about having it printed for them with their name at the top. No need then for an extra place card here – it’s all in one! Makes for a sweet little keepsake too if you add your names and wedding date.

6. Wedding place name tag pegged onto a wine glass

Who says your wedding place cards have to sit on the table? Add a little height and interest into your place settings by pegging name tags onto your wine glasses. Wooden pegs look great in a pared back, vintage rustic theme. Throw in a little romance with printed floral design a fluffy tulle bow!

8. Vellum tag wedding place card with silk ribbon

I think this is my favourite wedding place card idea. The super elegant vellum tag, simply printed in a modern calligraphy style and finished with a luxe pure silk ribbon. Wonderfully understated and oozing elegance and sophistication, these would work beautifully on any wedding reception table.

9. Wedding place card tag or label, on your wedding favour

I do love a ‘double up’ item. These can really help to keep your environmental impact down, as well as saving you some pennies. If you are having wedding favours on your tables, choose tags or labels that can be printed with your guest names as well. Voila, favour and place card in one!
