I first introduced Martin & Andrew to our bespoke stationery in the very early stages of their wedding planning. It was about 18 months before their big day, due to be held at Canada Lodge and Lake, just outside Cardiff. They had a very clear idea of the theme and colour scheme they were after; tropical and bold with greenery, bird of paradise flowers and hints of gold. They were very open to ideas about how to incorporate this into their wedding stationery and how to pull it all together. My ideal clients right there!
In our initial meeting we put together loads of different materials and variations on the colour theme, but one piece really stood out and caught their eye: this stunning, bold, tropical print paper. We all agreed that we just had to use it on EVERYTHING!
Using this paper along with elements of their colour scheme; vivid blues and oranges, we put together a complete suite of coordinating bespoke wedding stationery with everything from save the date cards right through to thank you cards.
Changes and amendments along the way . . .
As often happens, the design of much of the stationery evolved quite a bit along the way. There were also some additions and amendments to the original order – it’s inevitable when you’re wedding planning and we aim to keep the whole process as flexible as possible. When we put together our initial quote at our first meeting we anticipated this and scheduled in plenty of catch ups and reviews along the way.
Save the date
The very first glimpse of the wedding theme for Martin & Andrew’s guests. Their save the date cards were simple and elegant in blue and white with a very subtle watermark bird of paradise flower. Just a hint of what’s to come . . .
Bespoke invitations
After sending out their save the date cards I met with Martin & Andrew again to finalise details for the next part of their tropical stationery; their invitations. They had chosen the pocketfold style to include a guest information card and a reply postcard, we used that tropical print on both the outside and inner of the invitations, for extra impact. Evening invitations were the same size but flat, incorporating a few elements of the design.
Custom stationery for on the day
For the ceremony
Personalised ‘reserved seating’ cards for some of the ceremony chairs meant VIPs were sat in the right place. We kept these very simple, just matching the font to everything else.
An order of the day board (for a civil ceremony they didn’t need a traditional order of service)
For the reception tables . .
Bespoke place cards for the reception tables, slightly bigger than we usually make as they had a personal message inside explaining how the boys had made a donation to a charity very close their hearts instead of buying wedding favours.
A table plan in a fabulous gold frame supplied by the boys ensured all guests could find their seat.
Three sided table cards that included the table name, menu and a personal message from them (these are now affectionately called ‘toblerone’ table numbers, thanks Martin!!)
Various little signs for around the venue; cards, guest book, sweetie table (some of which we put into frames). We also printed a couple of readings to be used in their ceremony and backed them with that stunning paper – it’s all about the details!
Bespoke, personalised thank you cards
Four weeks after their big day and we’ve just finished the very last part of Martin & Andrew’s bespoke wedding stationery; the thank you cards. These include a photograph of the newlyweds on the inside, along with plenty of space for them to write their own personal message. We’re going to miss working with this fabulous tropical print!
How it all looked on the day
These gorgeous pictures (along with the ones of the happy couple) are by the super talented Helen Court Photography. We love how the bespoke stationery theme all pulled together on the day with those crisp white chair covers, blue sashes and the florals with those stunning bird of paradise blooms. Helen has also blogged about this wedding – head on over for more fabulous images.
What Martin and Andrew say . . .
I’ll leave the final words to the happy couple. Thank you Mr & Mr Robinson-Jennings, it’s been an absolute pleasure to work with you!
By Jo was recommended to us by a close friend. We loved her wedding invitations & asked who had created them. We first met Jo in October 2017, we had an idea of a theme and colours but that was pretty much it. Our intention was to ‘shop around’, but after meeting Jo we knew straight away that we wanted By Jo to create our wedding stationery.
Jo has always been very warm and friendly but also very professional and an expert at what she does.
Looked after
We have felt looked after through every step of the way, like our wedding was the most important. Along the way, we were shown different design ideas for our stationery. Save the dates, invitations, name cards, table names, table plan, order of the day and thank you cards. We were given a timeline and costs up front which helped our budgeting early on in the planning process.
In control
Even in the early stages of planning, over 6 months flew by but By Jo stayed in touch. When we met again, Jo had our file with everything we had previously discussed. We felt in control but also felt in safe hands – really important when arranging the biggest day!
We saw samples before any of our items went into production. The day we picked up our ‘on the day’ stationery – we couldn’t stop looking at it! All that planning over 18 months and we finally had everything that Jo had designed for us. Everything was beautiful. Throughout our journey with By Jo we have had so many positive comments from our guests. Andrew & I can’t recommend and thank By Jo enough.
